It is no lie that the past few years have been unusual to say the least, and to cope we have our trustworthy and ever so faithful entertainment industry. Anticipation and thrill have been a gift to the human kind, and a much-needed distraction in the times we live in. Here are some upcoming and just released movies you can weather the storm to.

Top Gun 2: Maverick

This action-drama film is directed by Josphen Kosinski, yes, the same mad genius behind the 2010 ‘Tron: Legacy’ and ‘Escape from Spiderhead’; a mind-bending science-fiction thriller. As we all know this is a sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 ‘Top Gun’, the highest grossing film at the time.

The film stars Tom Cruise, reappearing as Captain Pete ‘’Maverick’’ Mitchell from the original. The picture follows the return of our iconic hero thirty-six years later, back where we all recognize him, in the cockpit. The time has come for Captain Pete Mitchel to face his past, and confront the skeletons left behind in his dusty closet. His voyage begins with him training the next generation of aviators for a special mission, and among them is a face he recognizes like no other; the son of Maverick’s deceased best friend Goose. He must now face his fears and culminate in an extraordinary mission that requires the highest level of sacrifice from those who are willing to participate in it.

 Jurassic World Dominion

Now for a movie we are all familiar with, something the majority of us have all grown up with and since then have utterly and completely been obsessed with. Directed by Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg acting as executive producer, this fiction action film will have you buying Jurassic World merch all over again. Yes, call you friends and ask them to bring popcorn because it is without a doubt time for a Jurassic World marathon night.

Reprising their roles from the previous films in the franchise, the orchestra of phenomenal performers; Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldbum, Sam Neill and many more are joined by DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, Campbell Scott, Scott Haze, and Dichen Lachman. Four years after the final destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now hunt and live hand in hand with humankind. Will this balance last? Or will it refine the future of the world and its norms. The reviews by critics and super fans are, in two words ‘controversial’ and ‘overwhelming’, but I’ll let you decide that for yourself. However, since the first few Jurassic World films were such a big success after a certain point it is gonna be difficult to top, however, that’s not going to stop us from revising the feeling of concrete nostalgia will it?

 Pinocchio

You guessed it; we’ll be revisiting our childhood once again with Disney. This musical fantasy film is directed by Robert Zemeckis. Based on the Italian book ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ by Carlo Collodi, this live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s 1940 animation film, will blow you mind to bits, as star Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Luke Ecans and many more bring to life the characters we have known all our life, with just their soothing voice. Alan Silvestri has worked on countless projects with Zemeckis’, and we will also be lending a helping hand for Pinocchio, song from the original will also be included, such as ‘when you wish upon a star’. This one of those movies that have no audience of a fluid age group, the cinemas are bound to have kids and adults alike, who could say no.

 Thor: Love and Thunder

Alright Marvel fans, hang on to your seats, Thor is back for more. Starring the dashing Chris Hemworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thomspon, Natalie Portman and many more, this film will tickle your spidey senses. Written and directed by Taika Waititi, the man responsible for ‘Thor; Ragnarok, and ‘Jojo Rabbit’.’

The story takes place following the event of ‘Avenger: Endgame’, the movie that had us all biting out nails and screaming at white screens. We were all there when Thor experienced a number of different phases, epiphanies and points of character development. In this film we really get a deeper look into him as a person, on a journey to find inner peace and contentment, however his wheel of faith leads him back to action. He recruits a band of badasses; Valkyrie, Korg and Jane Foster, who come together to stop Gorr the God Butcher from bringing an end to all gods. Take my advice, wait for the credits, the geeks out there will get it.

Which one are you going to start off with?
