For just about any Maldivian kid, nostalgia is weekends spent sitting in front of the TV and hammering away at controllers with our cousins. Summer breaks meant junk food and spirited matches of Mortal Kombat or FIFA. It was some form of unconscious tradition; to raise our voices at each other as the gamers-rush settles, and falling asleep to GTA’s background music only made you a war hero. Since the 90’s this has come to be a shared core memory of almost everyone’s childhood. 25 years ago Playstation created an experience drenched in sentimentality, from its iconic startup sound to storyboards that shaped our community.

Decades later they continue to do wonders. The steady stream of upcoming PlayStation5 games show no sign of slowing down.
