FLAKY HERBS: A couple’s food adventure!

Food is somethings that brings people together and food is what made this couple’s grow together as it was one of their common grounds. A professional Chef, Shammu and a cooking enthusiast Shahu: the husband wife-duo shared their food journey with us at Ka leo.

Flaky pastry is a favorite of Shahu and herbs an ingredient used to invigorate the taste buds, an ingredient which Shammu frequently used in his cooking thus their brand “FLAKY HERBS” was established as uniquely as the couple. Out of the many home-based kitchens that kicked off during the lockdown Flaky Herbs is becoming more popular by the day.

Before the launch among their friends and family, they were always whipping something up for a quick bite or cooking a meal for a get together as the saying goes nothing can beat a homecooked meal made with love. With the encouragement and a little push from their family their food venture began.

What set Flaky Herbs apart from other Insta Cafes was their products which appealed to the taste of customers and hit the right spot. The salads were made and served in jars and meals were full of flavor. Phad Thai, a popular Thai dish they made was a fast sell, as the dish had the perfect blend of spice and flavor to devour soon it became irresistible for most their customers.

For desserts and quick bites Flaky Herb’s Pretzel made the social media buzz. Crème Brule and Panna Cotta are desserts they have make together and are widely sought-after.

Shammu trained from Malaysia and France and with his extensive work experience in resorts, he wants to experiment more dishes and variety like any other passionate chef. However, the pandemic and lockdown made things tough.

One challenge was sourcing quality ingredients. The supermarkets were often out of stock and the prices varied very much while they charged a fixed price. Like everything new this was also a huge learning experience for the duo.

Even though Shammu & Shahu recommend to occasionally indulge on something to feed the soul, with their salad-jars and well-balanced set meals the couple is helping people opt for healthier options and be more conscious about the food they eat.
