It takes something sweet and creamy to quench the thirst when the weather is warm and the midday heat starts weighing down in one’s hectic life. Be it a chilled water bottle or an ice cream that refreshes the soul. Albeit most would go for the latter because Ice cream is always a good excuse to gather your friends and have a good time to take the heat off.
To have that perfectly textured ice-cream isn’t easy because some manufactured ice creams can taste artificial, hence it takes a lot of taste testing in order to get that perfect consistent flavor to satisfy the tastebuds. It wouldn’t be a lie to say that this is mostly achieved in homemade ice creams as home made ice creamers takes the time and effort to keep the consistency in place in order to keep the customers asking for more.
One such talented artist who creates magical homemade ice cream in our nation is Fathimath Nadin Aujaz who is the face behind Whatsthescoop page in instagram and Facebook. She shared her journey on how she started making ice cream.
“While I was studying, my sister and I got intrigued with homemade ice creams and after we came back it was my sister who pushed me into starting a business.” Nadin began with how she started.
When asked how the name Whatsthescoop came about, Nadin replied with a smile, “While discussing ice cream making and names with a colleague, she pointed out that ice cream comes in scoops and what is a scoop, so we combined those and gave the name Whatsthescoop.”
“Initially we had started with three flavors, which was Vanilla, Chocolate and Passion fruit. And now we have released two more flavors which is Milo and Cookie Monster. From these five flavors, the best seller would be Milo with Cookie Monster being next in demand.” Nadin threw light on the most popular flavor amongst her products. As for her favorite ice cream she replied with a grin that it was Passion fruit.
Nadin shares that she gets the biggest support from her husband followed by her parents, sister and her friends without whom she would not be where she is today. “My husband has been my biggest supporter who has been with me through thick and thin helping me every step of the way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all that he does.”
“I have recently created a Facebook page but I get order inquiries mostly from Instagram as I had started my business through Instagram. Mainly its me who create content for the page but I do get a lot of help with the photos from friends and colleagues.” Nadin explained further in detail.
Upon inquiring about the biggest challenge faced from start till now, Nadin says that, “For example, to make the Passion fruit flavor, sometimes it gets difficult to get the fruit and even when we do get it, the price would differ from time to time. But no matter what the items cost, the price range of the ice cream is constant always. Other than that the biggest challenge I would say is time. And that also I have learnt to manage well now.”
For those who wants to start their own businesses, Nadin has one thing to say and that is, “I will just say to start planning what your market strategy would be and whether you can give enough time to grow because after once you start you will be able to progress along the way. So if you really have the will, you will be able to start and do anything you set your mind to. As for how I manage my time, I always take orders one day ahead and fit a time into my schedule after work to process those orders.”
