While some may recognize her as Basma, others may be familiar with the unique moniker “bus of life.” However, both names symbolize and encapsulates this Personal trainer’s philosophy and deep commitment to a mutual yet embarkment on with each client. Although the destination varies for every individual, the path is remarkably common, a path Basma herself has taken years before. Basma Mohamed has discovered her life’s purpose — guiding and supporting her clients as they navigate their distinct and personal expedition, each steering their own wheel toward fulfillment, and a well-being one can be proud of.
Basma heard her calling in 2019. Initially launching her career at the European Institute of Fitness (EIF) Studio, she has dedicated the last three years to Blaze Fitness Maldives, leaving an impact and fostering growth. Whether it be leading group fitness sessions, providing personalized training, or organizing her exclusive female Bootcamp, Basma has showcased versatility, expertise, and a determination to make a positive difference. More importantly, she redefines the word ‘fitness’, as a universal truth that does not solely focus on physical health, rather it takes into consideration the nourishing of one’s soul.
The Mind & The Body
Having first-hand experience with anxiety and depression, Basma openly and fearlessly addresses mental health topics, bringing to the limelight its harsh consequences. Having personally confronted these challenges, she possesses a fountain of knowledge when dealing with clients in similar shoes; “I had to take medication for anxiety, and the doctor suggested I begin going to the gym. I started at Evove Male’, and I’ve never felt better”. Disclosing such personal information, Basma understood exactly how significant it was to create conversation in regard to certain matters that are still taboo to some; “I believe stress is the main reason to everything, whether it is obesity or stress eating or diabetes, stress is the root cause to just about any unhealthy habit. If you want to overcome this, fitness is definitely the answer.”
Additionally, Basma is also a fitness influencer, using social media to spread her message. Beyond showcasing motivational workouts and creating awareness, the words of Uncle Ben seep through; “with great power comes great responsibility”. In one way or another, influencers have come to be the 21st Century Superheroes, and they bear crucial duties. With her extensive reach, she sits in a distinctive position with the intent of change and a more whole comprehension, while inspiring her followers to prioritize self-care and acknowledge the interconnectedness of their mental and physical states. Basma emphasizes; “Most of my posts are to connect and educate the community, and motivate them. What I really want is to especially target the younger generation because they are the future, and this is something they will carry forward. ”
‘Fitness is for Everyone’
One aspect that tends to be overlooked is that fitness is inclusive, it is a source of solace for anyone who is willing. Yes, it can be intimidating, but it transcends your weight, how much you can bench press or what you look like. From working with clients who struggle with disorders and disabilities, Basma takes the word ‘Everyone’, quite literally. There are no boxes to tick, to be able to go begin your expedition to fitness, it is a given right to any and all individuals, a concept this personal trainer hopes to elaborate. Rather, fitness is the collective eager hunger for personal improvement. Keeping this in mind, Basma tailors workouts based on each client’s specific health considerations, goals, and targets they aim to achieve.
As a mother and a Personal trainer, she thoroughly understands the significance of pre and post-natal fitness, and takes pleasure in helping these mothers on their sacred passage. Acknowledging the transformative process of the body during pregnancy, she stresses the necessity of preparing the body for this new journey. In recent times, the community in Maldives has increasingly recognized the need for such fitness practices. Basma shares with us that particularly after pregnancy, the core of our bodies are notably weakened, necessitating breathing exercises or Kegel exercises for a more effective and rapid recovery.
In conclusion, Basma Mohamed’s route from a fitness enthusiast to a personal trainer and influencer exemplifies the transformative power of dedication and passion. Through her expertise, online presence, and commitment to empowering others, Basma continues to shape the lives of many, proving that fitness is not just a goal but a road towards a healthier and happier life.
